Pinnacle College Upgrades Studio-A With A Solid State Logic AWS 900+ SE Console With Integrated Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Control

LOS ANGELES, CA – “At Pinnacle College we teach the students how things work, not how to work things,” says Francis Buckley, development manager for Pinnacle College and Chairman of the Program Advisory Committee for Audio Engineering. “We love the SSL AWS 900+ SE because it is a full-on old school analogue console combined with the modern version of the digital audio workstation control surface. It gives us great flexibility because we can use multiple DAW software packages and the AWS controls them all.”

Pinnacle College offers accredited certification in Audio Engineering and accredited Occupational Associate Degree in Video Game Sound Design. The coursework puts great emphasis on practical, hands-on training anchored on a comprehensive background of theory of sound and music. Audio Engineering courses include Recording Engineer, Post Production Engineer, Mastering Engineer, Audio Mixer, Sound Designer and Producer. Video Game Sound Design courses include Sound Designer, Music Producer, Dialog Recorder, Foley Artist, Music Composer and Music and Sound Mixer. Because of the varied missions, the choice of the AWS was critical for students going into the workplace.

“The main reason why Pinnacle College chose the AWS is because first and foremost, it’s an SSL,” Buckley comments. “It looks exactly like the full-scale SSL consoles our students will be interacting with in music studios, post production facilities, Foley/ADR rooms and even remote trucks. The secondary, but just as important, reason was yeah it’s an SSL – a great sounding board with a great company reputation. Thirdly, the AWS provides us with a vehicle from which we can build the foundational knowledge our students need in every discipline we offer. A dedicated controller for one software package can’t provide the range of learning experience the AWS provides.”

Radio Play State of the Music

Posted by admin

Disaster looms! Two days ago now a federal court denied a plea to delay the massive increase in rates webcasters must pay the record labels. This means that, absent immediate Congressional action, the new ruinous royalty rates will be going into effect on Monday threatening the future of all internet radio.

People can actually help stop this by calling their Congressional representatives in the Senate and asking them to force immediate action on the Internet Radio Equality Act and bring the bill to a vote. It is critical that their phones begin ringing off the hook starting early in the morning. If it’s busy, please try again later.

Senator Christopher J. Dodd: (202) 224-2823

Senator Joseph I. Lieberman: (202) 224-4041

Basically these New rates signal day Web-radio music dies.

Every band dreams of the lucky night it’ll be discovered by a music promoter or favorite record label. Overnight you’ve got a hot record, radio stations everywhere playing your songs and your band becomes a household name. It’s the classic musician’s fairy tale.

But it is a fairy tale and, for every new artist who is discovered by a major record label, there are thousands who aren’t. For the rest of us, pursuing a career in music is hard. Now, proposed new royalty rates for Internet radio threaten to make it harder. The Copyright Royalty Board recently issued catastrophic royalty rate hikes — increases from 300 to 1,200 percent — which are set to take effect July 15. And some of the increases will be retroactive to January of last year.
