You may not have ever heard of me, but I’ve been making my own beats for over five years now. I started when I was younger by recording sounds into Windows Sound Recorder and using the basic mixing features available to mix VERY crude acapella beats. I mean very crude . Anyway, I’ve evolved slightly since then, having mastered all the major music production studio programs like FL studio, Reason, and Cubase.

For somebody who has been making beats for years these programs are great: they allow unlimited customization. However, this customization comes at a cost.. I’ve realized that it’s nearly impossible for people to learn how to make beats with these kinds of music production studios. They require extensive technical audio knowledge, which makes for an extremely steep learning curve.

My business depended on teaching people how to make their own beats, and I was having trouble doing that with the available software. Fortunately, some really smart guys changed all of that not too long ago. With the advent of social media and community-based websites, they developed one of the best music production communities around. Unlike most sites, which would become popular for about a month and then disappear off the face of the earth, they planned ahead, and they planned to offer much more value than these “other” sites. Many independent musicians and performers nowadays may not consider going to a pro recording studio. What with the budget home recording systems and equipment available now, you can do a lot at home if you have to time and ears to develop your skills as a music producer/sound engineer. And of course a lot of music is produced that requires no instruments at all – music can be made with only software instruments and samples. This article, however, is aimed at those who use their voice and/or music instruments to make their music and want some demo tracks, get their music online or get that dream gig.

Following in the footsteps of parents Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow is making a name for herself by kicking down the music industries entrance door with an upbeat, fun and colorful video. At the tender age of 10, she has already captivated the hearts of young people across the nation who look to her as a reminder that age does not regulate talent, an ability to impact society or earn an income.

Reminiscent of the DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince video Parents Just Don’t Understand, Willow’s video has similar splashes of color across walls and clothes and immediately makes a big hit with the youth. Judging from the number of YouTube views (currently over 24 million), this song will be around for a long time. Full of high energy, this music video clip contains stepping, pop-lock dancing, and a lot of hair swinging. Parents are often concerned about the content in the videos themselves such as clothing worn (or lack of it), but this is a kid-friendly song and is age-appropriate. We can expect to see more in the future from Miss Willow Smith.
