Buying a new vs used wind instrument

Instrument

There are many places to gather information regarding your purchase; your teacher has a wealth of knowledge, she/he may recommend a certain make or model.

our local music store may carry a new/used line of band instruments. If this is the case, ask to try as many as you can, not all instruments are created equal!

If the instrument feels good under your fingers, ask if you can show it to your teacher before you agree to make the final purchase.

And finally, the very best place to buy is at a band/orchestral specialty store. Your questions will be answered by knowledgeable people and as a bonus you won’t hear any searing guitar solo’s in the background!

Is there a trial period? Has the instrument been “set up” from the factory? Is there a warrantee, and if there is, is it “in store” or a manufacturer’s warrantee? Ask about shipping particulars When your instrument is away for repair, will they provide you with a loaner? Are replacement parts available for the instrument? There are many affordable “off-shore” instruments found at local music stores but should you need to repair the instrument, the availability of replacement parts can be difficult. Does the instrument come with a cleaning kit, and all the accessories needed to keep your instrument in top shape? What is the return policy should you wish to return the instrument? Does the store offer repair services in-house, or do they send your instrument out? This is your opportunity to develop a dialog with a repair technician. The more your repair technician knows about the relationship you have with your instrument, the better she/he can assist with mechanical adjustments.

Buying an Acoustic guitar

Posted by admin
Acoustic

The first step to learning to play the guitar is to buy a quality instrument. This doesn’t mean that you have to spend a lot of money to find a guitar that will give you years of service and a good sound. There are several makes and models of guitars that can be found on a budget that produce a round even tone. Before you go out and buy a new acoustic guitar, an understanding of the basics of guitar construction will arm you with the knowledge to make the right choice for you.

Guitar Construction
Acoustic guitars use the vibrations from the strings to produce the beautiful sounds that are characteristic of acoustic instruments. These vibrations are channeled into the guitar and reverberated through the soundboard. The soundboard is the top of the guitar and usually made of a soft wood to facilitate a rich sound. The back of the guitar and sides are usually made with hard woods for strength and resonance. The fingerboard and neck are made of a variety of hard woods for strength.

There are two types of acoustic guitars, classic and steel string models. Classic models use nylon strings and produce a mellow sound while steel strings produce a more crisp clear sound. You should try out both types of guitars before you decide on the style you want to buy. Your choice will be determined by personal preference and budget. Nylon string classic guitars are generally cheaper in price, not quality, than their steel string alternatives.

Things To Consider When Buying A Musical Instrument

Instrument

If you are considering buying a musical instrument, no doubt you have been confronted with so much choice and information that your head is swimming. Sales people will usually guide you to the most profitable product for them or sell you on the many benefits of a product you may not be ready for. So how do you choose the best musical instrument for your needs if you aren’t an expert?

The first step toward purchasing a musical instrument is to assess your needs. What do you want the instrument to do for you? How do you want to use it? How experienced are you currently? What is your track record with purchasing and using musical instruments? Is the instrument for you or someone else? Will they still be using it in a year’s time? In two year’s time?

Once you have evaluated your needs, begin to research your alternatives. What are the differences between products and prices? Will an expensive product be necessary or can you gain the same benefits with a lower priced product? Make a list of potential products and prices and then phone a number of teachers of that instrument and ask them for their recommendations and if there are any products you should avoid, being careful to let them know your current level of skill.

When buying Music Studio Equipment?

Posted by admin
Music Studio

There is a lot of amazing digital Music Studio Equipment available to buy online but one should check out a couple of industry magazines to get some genuine reviews about different brands offering audio recording equipment.

Along with this research one should have answers to following questions:

Budget: Buyers must buy only an affordable recording equipment so as to utilize the recording business to the fullest.
Purpose:  If you are planning for a future in singing then recording equipment must be of high quality and should be able to deliver high quality sound with full clarity. The quality and functioning of the recording equipment must be double checked before buying . Also you may need to be able to play back your material over loudspeakers, so don’t forget some sort of power amp and some studio reference speakers.
Usability: If you are working with up to maybe 4 performers at once you can get a simple computer-based system with a couple of mikes and possibly a mixer if you need it. Standalone digital recording consoles that include inputs for mikes and instruments, a mixing panel, and a hard-drive storage system may solve the purpose.
Power Supply : If your studio is going to be in your home you must think of buying some power conditioners. Electronic equipment works best when it has a clean, steady supply of power. I recommend getting an isolation transformer and power conditioners for each studio component.
