This is the one jazz record owned by people who don’t listen to jazz, and with good reason. The band itself is extraordinary (proof of Miles Davis’s masterful casting skills, if not of God’s existence), listing John Coltrane and Julian “Cannonball” Adderley on saxophones, Bill Evans (… More >>

Freddie Hubbard Born to be Blue Jazz Music CD Review

Posted by admin

Born To Be Blue is the latest Jazz CD put out by the richly talented Freddie Hubbard who once again has delivered a brilliant collection of tracks. I’m confident Freddie Hubbard fans, and Jazz fans alike will be pleased with this one.

Unfortunately, it’s not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Born To Be Blue. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Born To Be Blue has a nicely varied, mix of 5 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly outstanding artist. With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are him own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, heartbreak, pain, failed relationships and unattainable romance. They’re all here.

Born To Be Blue is a first rate CD, delivering a little something for everyone. I give it two thumbs up. It’s quite simply great listening. A must buy for the Jazz fan.

While the entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 1 – Gibraltar, track 2 – True Colors, and track 3 – Born To Be Blue.

Tina Brooks True Blue Jazz Music CD Review

Posted by admin

Very talented Jazz artist Tina Brooks has released her latest CD titled True Blue and Wow! It’s really a good one.

Unfortunately, it’s not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with True Blue. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you’ve got one of Tina Brooks’s most impressive releases ever.

Listen to this CD and I believe you’ll find there’s not much to dis-like about it. The songs are inspired, the production is simply outstanding, and Tina Brooks is clearly in top form. So much so that if you’re even mildly into Jazz music you’ll enjoy this album.

While this entire album is really very good some of my favorites are track 2 – Up Tight’s Creek, track 6 – Nothing Ever Changes My Love For You, and track 8 – Good Old Soul

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – Good Old Soul. Good stuff!

Freddie Hubbard Blue Spirits Jazz Music CD Review

Posted by admin

Not sure what’s happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Blue Spirits gets. Blue Spirits simply put is one of Freddie Hubbard’s best CDs to date.

I wish it weren’t the case but, it’s not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Blue Spirits. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

One of the nicer things about a CD like this is with this level of talent even if Jazz isn’t your favorite style you still can’t help but appreciate the greatness of the artist.

Listen to Blue Spirits and I believe you’ll find there’s not much to dis-like about it. The songs are inspired, the production is simply outstanding, and Freddie Hubbard is clearly in top form. So much so that if you’re even mildly into Jazz music you’ll enjoy this album.

While the entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 2 – Blue Spirits, track 3 – Outer Forces, and track 7 – True Colors.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 – Soul Surge. What a nice track!
