Tia Fuller – Not Your Typical Jazz Artist

Posted by admin
Jazz Music

http://i56.tinypic.com/2qkplxx.jpgAlthough she was not a music celebrity from the very start, Tia Fuller has risen from the background as a backup singer for Beyonce Knowles to the forefront of the stage, proving that she can be a unique and profitable singer, songwriter and artist. With her newest album, Decisive Steps, which was released in March of 2010, Fuller has added to the already illustrious appeal of American Jazz. However, while still maintaining the classic characteristics of jazz, such as the incorporation of the saxophone and other horns in her album, she also offers a great deal of diversity due to her unique tempos and rhythmic beats. Of the album’s ten tracks, the song “Decisive Steps” is the star in the album.

The track begins with gentle beats that symbolize classic jazz yet the melody of Fuller’s voice hints towards a genre of music that is much more fast paced, such as hip hop or rap. However, despite this unusual beginning to the album’s headline song, the jazz qualities are unmistakable and thus, the listening is swarmed by the calming, relaxing sounds that jazz is notorious for. While the song “Decisive Steps” particularly specializes in smooth beats and softly sung lyrics, there are other styles and variations of the album that, while they may not sound like jazz, are in fact works of musical masterpiece.

Independent Artist Website – Sound Decisions About Studio Recording

Posted by admin
Music Studio

Now that you have had a general introduction to recording, specifically for tracking a live show, this Independent Artist Website will give you an overview of studio recording, from the usual rent-a-pro approach to setting up your own project studio.

First things first: You have to decide who is going to be the producer, even before deciding on the engineer. None of the later decisions about tracking instruments, recording vocals, doing overdubs, processing signals, or getting a final mix will mean Bo Diddley, to coin a phrase, if your bands three or five or eight members are arguing all the time about who sounds the loudest and what so-and-so’s girlfriend is doing in the vocal booth. Someone has to run the show.

This is even true for a solo act in independent artist, since in a studio leadership vacuum most seasoned (or semi-seasoned, or even just salty) engineers will step right up and make the decisions for you. If the band does not present a united front behind its leader, the whole process will be at risk. So, before anything else, decide

•    Who will be the producer?
•    What arrangements of what songs will be recorded?
•    How much debate and democracy will be involved in the process,
•    When the various deadlines are going to be set, and
•    Why things are going to be run them way they are.

From Idol to Music Artist

Posted by admin

Who would have thought that a young cocktail waitress from Texas would eventually have three music labels? Kelly Clarkson won the first American Idol contest back in 2002, and was awarded with a record deal and the chance at a music career. That is when the Texas native released her first music album, Thankful in 2003. It is no surprise either, that that single music album was so well received. Not only did several of the music hits get number one on many hit-lists; but the album sol over two million copies, and the reviews to go along with it.

It took a long while for her to make it in to the music scene. Before winning “American Idol”, Clarkson joined her school’s chorus and began singing late in her youth, at age 13. Even back then, her voice was strikingly amazing, and everyone knew that she would one day have her own music labels. After graduating high school the lively young singer with a powerful voice recorded her own songs while holding down numerous jobs. Some of these songs she put onto websites for people to find the music files. But the downloading music sites were not popular enough for her to get noticed. She then moved west to make an attempt at a music career, but as fate would have it, it wasn’t her time yet. After a series of mishaps while living in Los Angeles, including an apartment fire that left her with nothing, she returned home to Texas.

Atlanta Artist Corey Barksdale Inspired By Jazz Music

Posted by admin

ATLANTA, GA – Corey Barksdale’s work is continually inspired by jazz. “It frees me to do what I feel when I’m painting,” Barksdale says. While painting, he often listens to jazz greats like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and John Coltrane. The result has been more than 30 paintings that celebrate the jazz experience.

“Coltrane is at the top of my list,” says Barksdale. A Coltrane recording he particularly enjoys is Africa. “Coltrane is improvisational in the piece but he has structure in his sound. I like the freedom that he has when he’s playing Africa. It’s rhythmic and free.”

Barksdale admires Miles Davis with equal measure for his rawness. “Davis was into experimenting and trying different things with his sound. He was a catalyst for other musicians and he was a pioneer in his time, all without commercializing the music.”

So what is it about jazz that inspires Barksdale’s creativity? “I love the improvisation of jazz musicians from the ‘50s and ‘60s. There was a lot of experimentation going on. In much the same way, I want to create something totally new with my paintings each time – to be different in the way I portray certain subjects.” Barksdale clearly appreciates traditional jazz artists – the Jazz Crusaders and Sonny Rollins included – but he also gets a certain amount of inspiration from legendary contemporaries like Joe Sample and David Sanborn.
