Gillian Welch Hell Among the Yearlings Country Music CD Review

Hell Among The Yearlings is the latest Country CD put out by the very talented Gillian Welch who once again has delivered a brilliant collection of tracks. I’m confident Gillian Welch fans, and Country fans alike will be pleased with this one.

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you’ve got one of Gillian Welch’s most impressive releases ever.

Overall Hell Among The Yearlings is a solid release. Quite possibly Gillian Welch’s best to date. Really sensational from beginning to end. If you’re even mildly into Country music you’ll enjoy this CD.

While this entire CD is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 3 – The Deveil Had A Hold Of Me, track 8 – I’m Not Afraid To Die, and track 11 – Winter’s Come & Go.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 11 – Caleb Meyer. Great track!

Create Music Beat – Make Your Own Beats

Down tempo is a smooth style combining slow beats with an ambient style. It’s intended to be relaxing. It’s the electronica equivalent to smooth jazz.

When creating a down-tempo track in acid music studio I recommend setting your BPM fairly low, around 90 to 70. Use slower, hypnotic “groove type” beats, and arrange nice instrumental pieces over it. You can use vocals and other soothing noise in the back ground to help fill out the track.

With downbeat (same thing) its all about being nice and chilled.

Try finding a nice rock style drum loop, or even better a blues or jazz drum loop. Set your beats per minute at about 90 and layer some other light percussion on top. You can use another loop, or you can make it all from scratch. Your call.

Find a nice bass loop that really meshes smooth with the drums. I like to let the bass play louder than the drums, but that’s my style. If you play bass, you will have an advantage in down-tempo music.

Now use some smooth synth loops, or something you play yourself. Make it kinda float over the top of the drums and bass. Try to keep everything smooth and groovy. No sudden changes.

A nice slow acoustic guitar melody works really well for down-tempo. Aim to make something that has your foot tapping along to the beat at a nice slow and even pace.

There are several different careers in music for anybody who is interested in engineering. The music industry has a wide variety of jobs available in all different types of aspects. Having a career in the music industry does not mean you have to have a great voice or musical talent. There are a lot of careers within the industry that require other skills such as marketing, promotions, and design. Your dream to be a part of the music industry does not have to be crushed just because you cannot sing or a play the guitar or drums. The industry has a lot of opportunities to be involved with music, fame, and stardom. Here are some jobs to consider if you want to be a part of it.

If you are really passionate about some of your favorite bands or artists, being a promoter may be the job for you. Promoting bands can be a lot of fun and is a great job for someone with a lot of passion, an outgoing personality, and who loves live music. Promoting bands can be as simple as handing out flyers for their next concert, or as complicated as maintaining a website for the band. Music promoters’ jobs are to promote concerts.

If you like to be in control or naturally take on the role as a leader, you may want to consider being a music agent or artist manager. These jobs require a lot of organization, keeping up with schedules, and making things happen for the band or artist you are managing. You have to keep an artist’s best interest in mind to ensure a promising and successful career. A manager takes on a lot of responsibility, especially business opportunities, so that musicians can focus on creating and recording music. An agent works with promoters and managers to plan and implement concerts and live music shows.
