The piano has been an integral part of jazz bands since the origin of jazz. The best thing about it is that you can play jazz music as a soloist or as part of the band and thus the piano is also the most flexible musical instrument in a jazz band with its myriads of playing techniques.

Furthermore, most musical instruments in a jazz band can only play single notes with the exception of the vibraphone which at most can play two notes together, the guitar and the piano the latter two being able to play multiple notes as in a chord or single notes as and when the musician choose to do. That is why playing the jazz piano can be a very challenging but gratifying experience.

In the beginning, the jazz piano player’s role was just a percussionist role of keeping tempos with repetitive chord combinations. Those days are now long gone and the pianist now can choose any style and techniques to play with the band or to accompany singers such as using short sustained chordal and melodic fragments known as comping in the jazz fraternity.

If you want to be a good jazz pianist, you must be good at sight reading, playing by ear as well as being very skillful at improvising chords and notes. Furthermore, you must be very adaptable to the playing styles of various bands because playing jazz is often a jam session with other fellow musicians and very often in unrehearsed impromptu sessions.

Because of the extended range of notes on the piano keyboard, the jazz pianist have a much wider choice of notes and chords to improvise with and if you are a good pianist, you will enjoy yourself very much given the wide variations for your musical interpretation. No other instruments in a jazz band can come close to this flexibility and range. This being the case, the jazz pianist must master many more techniques and skills to be a master of his instrument.

One of the most common technique in jazz piano playing is a style called “striding the piano”. When you are striding on the piano, your left hand alternates positions very quickly playing notes in the bass register and chords in the tenor register. Your right hand usually plays the melody line of the song, but may also play the song’s harmonic content whether chordally or in octaves.

One duty of the jazz pianist is to provide a clear and swinging rhythm to the music. This can be done by striking a beat with the right hand just after a weaker beat with the left hand to give the feel of a swing so as to mimic the combination of a cymbal ride and the walking bass notes and strides. This technique is usually used in close collaboration with the bass player.

You can see that many jazz pianist play by holding their hands together in a fork like shape joining index, the third finger and the thumb to form a central group, while the last two fingers are spread outwards.

This technique is to enable the pianist to use the left branch fingers to play bass notes, the middle fingers to play the guide notes and the right branch fingers to play the higher melodic lines on the higher notes of the piano.

The above are just some of the many techniques jazz pianist are expected to be accomplished at. Yes, the demands placed on jazz pianists are very high indeed. However, if you can master the skills and techniques of playing jazz piano, you will find that it is one of the most gratifying experiences anyone can feel.

Jazz dance requires intensive moving. Performing various leaps and turns may not be easy. Great clothing is likely to be a must for both starters and professionals. Most jazz dancers wear comfortable jazz trousers, slim-fit tank-tops and light jazz shoes both for stage performances and practice sessions. Wearing something as comfortable as a great pair of jazz pants is likely to help dancers feel free while doing what they like.

Most dance instructors recommend students to wear supportive undergarments for jazz classes. Since jazz classes involve a lot of moving, female students are likely to need supportive bras. This may be a normal bra that fastens at the back, a sports bra or a supportive top. It is also important to wear leggings or tights that are made specifically for dancing. Leggings and tights worn under jazz pants are generally good for jazz classes. Generally, the stretchiest legwear works best, so browsing through a collection of dance leggings and tights may be a good idea.

Jazz pants are normally made of comfortable fabrics, such as cotton or lycra. While lycra is very stretchy and provide dancers with freedom of movement, cotton provides comfort and lightness. Most pants are equipped with elastic waistbands which help keep pants on the waist. These pants normally have wide legs and sometimes stop at mid-calf or at the ankle. Teachers may require beginners to wear pants only for warm-ups since they need to see movements of students better. More experienced jazz dancers always wear jazz pants.

Choosing the right footwear is also important. Jazz shoes are similar to ballet pumps, but the two are not exactly the same. Jazz shoes may be either split-soled or full-soled and are normally made of leather or canvas. Full-soled shoes work best for beginners, while split-soled shoes are preferred by more experienced dancers. Different jazz shoes may have rubber or suede soles. Rubber soles work best for wooden or cemented floors, while suede is preferred for performance surfaces. Jazz shoes are normally slightly covered by jazz pants.

Besides, dance instructors recommend keeping hair off the face. It is possible to wear hair in a ponytail or held with a headband. The majority of the experienced dancers also recommend students to limit their accessories. This includes neck jewellery, large earrings, heavy rings, piercings and bracelets. Anklets are also not recommended since they can catch onto jazz pants. In fact, wearing anything except standard jazz clothing is not recommended.

Some teachers require their students to wear uniform jazz pants, tops and shoes. This way it is easier for teachers to see mistakes. However, some teachers may allow more freedom about what to wear. So before buying jazz clothing it is recommended to ask for regulations of the man in charge.

All in all, buying good jazz pants, jazz shoes and tank-tops is likely to be beneficial for anybody who wants to give jazz dance his or her best shot. Comfortable equipment is a must for any physical activity, so paying serious attention to selecting jazz clothing is a must. There are thousands of stores selling good brand dancewear both on- and offline, so finding something truly special should not be a problem.

There is a story that the first European college jazz course began in Frankfurt, Germany, in the early nineteen thirties, but was promptly closed down after Hitler seized power in January 1933!

The story, though difficult to confirm, has the ring of truth. Had Jazz Education been available so early in the history of jazz (the first jazz recordings appeared in 1917), the Jewish and Negro elements present in the music would have guaranteed the disapproval of the Nazis.

For complete details about study in uk, visit abroad education corner.

Alas, they were not alone. Even Lord Reith’s BBC forbade the broadcasting of dance music on Sundays during the 1930′s.

Jazz has been the recipient of hostility and cultural philistinism throughout its eighty years.

Now it is pleasing to report to a steady post-war growth in opportunities for serious study of jazz at college level, leading to a current boom in provision.

In the nineteen forties America led the way, the most famous pioneer being the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Berklee still thrives today but has tough competition from numerous excellent courses, both in America and Europe. Jazz came from America and uses American popular song; so the language of jazz is English. The language of jazz education, from the blackboard to the bandstand (and vice versa) is also English. Couple with that fact the emergence of European Jazz as a distinctive genre, and study in Britain is increasingly seen as first choice for the international student wishing to combine the polishing of his or her English Language skills with the sharpening of jazz abilities.

In recent years the London conservatories – the Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, Trinity College of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama – have offered some jazz provision, either one year courses for advanced players or those at postgraduate level. Yet undeniably Leeds College of Music, who pioneered the BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies in 1993, remain the ‘Oxbridge’ of jazz education at undergraduate level. The degree course stemmed from one of the first jazz courses in Europe (Frankfurt excepted) in 1965 and students are able to precede the three-year course with a one-year access course if required.

The degree course includes options in sound recording and even Indian Music and fusion, where Leeds has the only specialist full-time Indian Music teacher and musician. The 200 jazz students at the College thrive in this environment where the only limit to their music-making is their own imagination.

Leeds itself is an active student town with two universities and specialist colleges of art, technology and building as well as the music college. Leeds is also the club capital of the north and venues range from music clubs for musicians and audiences to places to bop, chill or just to be seen at.

Whether you like contemporary dance, opera, straight or interactive theatre or sculpture, you will find some of the best arts events in Leeds. The College’s new neighbour – Leeds College of Music has just moved into brand new purpose-built premises – the West Yorkshire Playhouse, is known in the UK as the National Theatre of the North, producing its own excellent plays and musicals as well as providing and outlet for touring theatre productions. The theatre runs regular jazz in the foyer programmes and they are always on the lookout for new performers.

After three years, you can stay on for the postgraduate certificate 1-year course, the MMus due to come on stream in Autumn 1998 or launch yourself into the big wide jazz world as your predecessors have successfully done before you. Past students from the course include big names on the European jazz scene some of whom regularly perform in Japan, radio producers, producers of sell-out musicals, composers and teachers.

Following the success of the jazz course at Leeds and the jazz teaching in the London conservatories, there is considerable growth in the provision of jazz education at both Further Education (post-school but pre-undergraduate) and Higher Education (undergraduate) levels throughout the country including Newcastle, Chichester, Middlesex and Doncaster.

Gospel music is music that has been created to express religious belief and is characterized by the use of dominant vocals. The precise origin of is relatively unknown because the roots of gospel music are not documented well. Stories behind gospel songs weren’t written down any many of the early records have been lost. Despite this, many historians believe that gospel music evolved from slaves sometime in the 18th century.

When slaves arrived from Africa they tried to maintain their culture, but were forbidden by slave owners to play African instruments. The slaves infused music and dance into their everyday tasks such as working the fields. The slaves sang songs about working hard and about God. It was at this time that the field holler was created and it encouraged others to answer and sing along.

When slavery was abolished, African-Americans slowly began to migrate north to big cities. The former slaves clung to their music and dance, but brought it indoors to the churches that they started to attend. The church soloist often sang and the choir answered in response to the soloist’s questions. It was a way to celebrate God and to celebrate life.

Thomas Dorsey, an African-American musician, has been given credit for pushing gospel music to the masses in the 1930s. He was the son of a preacher and wrote many religious songs. The music that he created was exuberant and featured shouts of praise. Dorsey promoted gospel choirs and singers in venues other than churches and changed admission fees for the performance

Gospel music was becoming so successful that it eventually became part of the regular radio programming rotation. Gospel was not just for churches any longer. Gospel music has been credited with influencing blues and jazz music, and it is still evolving today.

At its core, Music Theory is the study of the written music notes. It is the understanding of the dots and scribbles that make up written music, and the ability to effectively translate them into sounds.

An understanding of theory really helps musicians, not because it makes them play better, but because it helps them communicate better with other muscians.

So how do you teach it? how do you get across the important parts of it, without overwhelming or boring the student?

I’ve come up with three important concepts which can help in this area.

Critical Concept #1 – Start with the sound, then the theory.

One thing that nearly all music teachers agree with is that music should start first with sound, and then move onto written understanding. In practice that means we should always introduce something with a sound, then explan why it is the way it is. For example if teaching chords it is very important for a student to understand firstly what a major or minor chord sounds like, the emotion that it is conveying and the reasons why a major or minor chord might be chosen for a particular situation. Once they can hear the sound, and its reason for being the mechanical knowledge will come.

          ]]>

Critical Concept #2 – Try to understand one thing at a time

Music is a multidimensional language. What does that mean? Well it means that in order to read music many different pieces of information have to be absorbed at one time. That is the thing that makes it most challenging. A note has both a pitch (what note it is), and a duration (how long it is played for). Add to that it also has a dynamic (how loud it is) and also expression marks that have to be interpreted. That is why music can be so difficult to learn to read.

Critical Concept #3 – Keep it relevant

The final important concept with music theory is to keep it relevant. The music that the student is currently learning is the music that should be used to relate to their music theory. For example It is very silly for a student to be playing jazz music, yet studying classical music theory. The music that students are playing is what should be used as the basis for their theory tuition.

hopefully if music teachers students can approach the study of music theory with these primary concepts in mind then music lessons will be more enjoyable and rewarding for everyone.

Wedding music I believe is carefully opted to carry on a wonderful celebration with soul and the flavor it brings adds a memory for a celebration not only weddings but other events where music is needed. It can bring smile or bring tears from your eyes. Only musicians with passion in their hearts can bring this so.

A string quartet or a wedding music ensemble creates a romantic sort of tune while acoustic music zooms you to remember love into your life. It makes you hum listening to a wonderful melody. Jazz music, on the other hand, has a different mood. It makes you sip your cocktail drink and exchange glances with your love one as you fondle each other hands as a melody invades the air.

Ceremony music calls for right choices. The safest music are Lord centered. Something inspirational with liturgical messages does the trick. And devout rendition is sought out. You are not there to just sing whatever it pleases you. Your are there offering the gift of music to the Lord and everybody feels it especially the couple wishing the best of everything to turn right.

          ]]>

A music artist has the right to educate the couple what music is appropriate for a wedding. The music suggestions they hand have to be reviewed and fit to the appropriate wedding theme. Wedding musicians are parts of the cast to make a dream wedding come true. Well, the couple has their taste of music and from there pick what fits and perform with a touch of artistry only true-bloodied musicians can do.

Wedding reception music is the easier to do. Variety is called for. When the guests arrive, I believe happy tunes set a festive mood. During meal, a combination of lilting music and love songs make a safe performance. It also depends on your theme. There are weddings that require all classical music but rare, indeed. Others opt for the jazzy type. More want a romantic feel and standard music is best.

Also to consider are the vocalists to do some numbers. Many singers just sing for the sake of singing and be paid. They are there to show off singing to the loudest of their voices thinking that the louder the voice is, the better. What is singing but control. The pain hearing someone reaching the highest notes etched on his or her face. It breaks the sacred rule of proper singing. Rock music is not an in thing for a wedding. It has its place. Screeching your voice out is a sad thing to consider. Maybe, it is your style but do it somewhere appropriate.

A wedding is sacred and every action contributed is measured to appropriate the couple’s delight for them to keep remarkable memories to last a lifetime. Wedding musicians make a part of the flashbacks.

Maybe you love top 40 music, but there isn’t a radio station within 200 miles that plays the latest hits.

Or,maybe you love country music but all of the radio stations in your town only play rock music.

Or, maybe you have a passion for jazz music, but the only time you can find it on the dial is when Mardi Gras rolls around. With web radio, listening to your favorite music doesn’t have to be a struggle.Instead, you can listen to anything you want–for free!

Web radio is exactly what it sounds like.It is a collection of real radio stations that are streaming their signals over the world wide web.A streaming radio website has thousands of radio stations from around the world to choose from. All you have to do is find one that you like, click on it,and start listening. It really is that easy!

          ]]>

Because there are so many stations to pick from, it is easy to find one that suits your taste. If you want, you can listen to a top 40 station right out of Los Angeles–where many artists choose to release their new singles first.Or, you can listen to a Nashville station that plays country music – so that you can hear your favorite artists right from the Grand Ole Opry.Or, you can listen to a station that plays classic jazz music, so that you can listen to all of your favorite songs 24/7.

How is web radio different from other online music services?

First and foremost, it’s free.Just like you can listen to the radio in your car for free, you can listen to radio stations over the web for free. There are no subscriptions to pay, no fees to deal with later, and no email lists to sign up for. When you log onto an online radio website, you simply get the music you love, without any strings.

Plus, web radio is a collection of real radio stations – not a bunch of computer-generated playlists. The music you’re hearing is selected by real DJ’s.The shows and commentary you’re listening to are happening right now. And the traffic and weather updates you’re hearing are the same ones people are hearing while they sit in rush hour traffic.

Web radio is no different than turning on your radio and checking out the stations in your neighborhood; it’s just on a much bigger scale.

As an added benefit, you won’t have to deal with any interference with web radio.Unlike traditional radio signals, these stations are broadcasting live, through your internet connection. If a thunderstorm rolls through, you won’t have to worry about losing your signal. As long as you have an internet connection, you can be connected to your web radio stations.

Jazz Guitar is one of the most challenging styles to discover. It is improvisation techniques, unique and frequently abstract chords together with crazy scales makes learning jazz guitar a lifelong process.

Depending on your current skill level it may be tough to discover a expert guitar teacher inside yourregion who provides jazz guitar lessons. For this factmany beginners are turning to jazz guitar courses rather than relying on private instruction to teach them the chords, scales and techniques they require to play jazz guitar.

In this write-up we’ll outline exactly what you’ll need to look for in a jazz guitar course, and whereyou willmost likelyfindthe best program on-line.

While fancy videos, on screen graphics and bonus materialsmightseem flashy when shopping for a guitar course when it comes down to it the only thing that matters is thequality of the teacher. If the teacher doesn’t know their stuff then probabilities are the course is not going to satisfy your learningrequirements.

Look for a teacher who has experience with teaching jazz, has taught private lessons within the past or performs and records jazz music.

          ]]>

It isofteneasier to find a one off DVD to watch on a specific guitar skill then to discover a full blown course that covers everything about a specific style of guitar.

To save time and to maximize your experience I’d suggestsearching for a jazz guitar course that covers every thingyou’llneed to know such as chords, strumming and timing techniquesalong with scales and improvisation techniques.

While it might take a littlemuch morelooking it’ll be nicely worth it when you only have topurchase1 course then let your practicing do the rest.

As mentioned above jazz is really aextremely technical style and probablythe mostdifficult to discover from homeutilizing a guitar course. This does not mean it is not feasible, but it isidealthat you have someone, preferably the course instructor, which you can contact with questions if yourequireassist.

Many courses consist of access to an online members forum exactly whereyou are able to pose questions and get feedback when yourequire it. This generallyis not an additional charge to the basic course, but keep your eye out for a program that provides this sort of thing.

Whilst a guitar course doesn’tprovide the 1 on one instruction and interaction experience you get from a private teacher you will findmany other benefitsyou’llenjoy.

You will invest far less cash on a jazz guitar course then you will on private lessons. The 1 time fee you generally pay for a good self study guitar program might bemore up front but you’llmuch more then get your cash back over the following weeks and months.

Also you’ll save time and be able todiscover as fast or slow as you want. Sinceyou are teaching your self entirely at houseyou’re in total control of how quick or slow you select to learn, when you watch the lessons and how frequently you practice.
