I used to tell people I met on airplanes or at parties that I wrote about jazz for a living. Once they got past wondering just what type of “living” that amounted to, they’d smile and say, “I love jazz,” then pause, adding, “But I don’t know that much about it.”

They were leery, thrown off by chart-and-graph references to jazz’s development – stuff like how ’40s swing begat ’50s bebop, which gave rise to ’60s free-jazz and all that. As if there was a textbook (well, actually some critic friends of mine are writing one, but that’s another story) and there might be a test, you know. Not to mention the political squabbles: why swing was king or bop the thing or how ’70s fusion killed it all.

Or maybe they’d been put off by all that technical talk: flatted fifths and extended chords and the numbers behind swing’s rhythmic propulsion – like it was rocket science or something.

Then there’s the cult aspect: those older guys bending and swaying at the back of the club, making like Jewish elders swaying to an fro at temple, or the generalized bowing down before deities such as Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker and John Coltrane (not to mention the infighting about just who deserves saintly status).

How to play the acoustic guitar:

Learning how to play guitar is one of the easiest things that you could do. Choose a good acoustic guitar and simply start to strum and slowly you will get the feel of melody and start playing songs that would make you happy. These days jazz is seen as one of the most popular dance styles, partly due to multiple television shows, movies, music videos and commercials featuring stylish jazz dancers making funny and energetic moves in comfortable jazz pants. Jazz dance is preferred and valued by many dancers as it displays individual style and originality. It means that every dancer interprets certain moves and steps in their own way. Sometimes, however, these unique moves are not easy to interpret at all as they include fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. In addition, if jazz dancers want to succeed in this type of dance, they need a strong background in ballet as it develops grace and balance.

As for jazz classes, they are casual and relaxed and give more or less freedom in selecting practice clothing. The only prerequisite is that dancers’ body lines need to be visible so loose-fitting clothes are generally discarded. Tights and leotards are beginning to catch on for this very dance style but most jazz dancers still go for wearing jazz pants. They come in different boot-cut or flared styles so as not to restrict ankle movement. Tops that are commonly worn for jazz dance include close-fitting tank tops, skin-tight t-shirts or leotards. Honda Jazz is not a new music band, but the new Honda auto tuning up the roads. No matter how many puzzles you have played, you always were left blank at some point. Similarly with the Honda Jazz whatever you try to fill it up with, there is always some space.

Exterior: It can easily be your new home with its unbelievable space. Clearly Honda’s expertise can be seen in every inch of the car. The key is the cab-forward and central fuel tank which gives the big space though it has a shorter wheel base. Unlike other hatchback biggies like the Hyundai i20, the Honda jazz is still a space apart from the rest. The design is consciously made with path-breaking patterns, despite its MPV-like proportions, the appearance is terrific. The Jazz also looks futuristic compared to the Honda’s usual style.

The front with the large triangular headlights is stunning. The bonnet catches has a strong chin which is suited to its aggressive front stance. The rear wheel arch with cuts at side of the car and the wide windshield at the back makes the car look niche.

Engine: It comes with 89 bhp is an 1198 cc petrol engine vehicle. The 1.2-litre engine is not the same as the Maruti and Hyundai which gives two overhead camshafts for better performance and drive. Still Honda’s i-VTEC system is flexible and efficient. The Honda Jazz has a responsive accelerator and is good at low speeds as well. The journey in traffic is really smooth. It easily gets past 5000rpm and races to the 6500rpm redline. Zero to 100kph comes up in 13.2seconds with 120 taking a total of 18.6sec.
