Io Canto

Italian, Spanish, or English: Laura Pausini’s edgy, electric vocals are some of the most vibrant in contemporary pop. The endearing diva has been around for more than a decade, but the 2004 disc Escucha found her enjoying a newfound musical independence and worldwide success. Have only heard Laura’s music on the radio, and decided to purchase this CD based on hearing the title track, Io Canto. I was disappointed to find out that it goes steadily downhill from there: no other track has the same energy or innovative sound, but kind of slows down to a generic soft rock-type mush. Wish the sound clips were available for this one on Amazon; I’d have saved my $13.99.

This is a good album but not her best. I found it a bit boring. There is no catchy tune on this one like on her previous ones. But is is still pleasant to listen to and her voice is beautiful.

What’s up this year with artists and cover songs, it seems that a lot of them did this, and this album has some boring cover songs where Pausini’s voice doesn’t shine like always. From the whole 15 songs only 3 are worth it, in those are “Io canto” and her duet with Juanes.Let’s hope next time she comes with another hit album like “Escucha” or “Las cosas que vives”.
